“Summer comes luscious as amber and honey”
Steve Wilson

One of the things I love most about summer is spending
time at my favorite luxurious resort.  There’s endless sun
at this special place and a continual supply of delicious
food and my beverage of choice, Diet Coke.   The cost is
well within my budget and there is always a vacancy.

Where is this fabulous resort, you ask?
Delicious Summer
Right in my own backyard.  To explain, my best friend, Ginnon, and I live next door to each other and share a
postage stamp sized backyard consisting of a bright garden and a small brick patio.  One summer, longing for the
luxuries of a real resort, we declared our backyard a resort.  We bought comfortable patio furniture and on
Saturday and Sunday mornings you’ll see each of us, me loaded up with books, Ginnon loaded up with magazines
and newspapers, heading out our back doors to relax and enjoy the summer day.

It’s not overstating it to say that without the resort, my life wouldn’t be what it is today.  It was at the resort that,
one summer, armed with several books about self-awareness, I decided to end a four-year relationship.    Another
year it was at the resort that I took time to read and do the exercises in the book “What Color is Your Parachute”
resulting in my decision to become a Life Coach.

Our resort is a powerful example of creating what you need.   By deciding that our little back yard was a place of
luxurious retreat, we’ve made it just that – a place where time slows down and there’s space for reading, thinking,
chatting and laughing.   Sometimes during a busy week day I’ll steal a half hour to relax and refuel at the resort,
and Ginnon often spends a few minutes at the resort relaxing at sunset after a long workday.

My wish for you this summer is that you take time to enjoy the long days and sunshine.  If you are lucky enough
to be heading out to a real resort, congratulations!  But if a getaway isn’t in your budget or schedule, try creating
your own little island of paradise.
